Digital Art in the New Age

I am able to see digital art no matter where I go and it is impossible to avoid it when browsing the internet. When I think of digital I do not imagine paintings or photography, I think of the little things and of course the amazing developments in 3D animation that exist in the entertainment industry. This new form of art opens a window for an entirely different audience that may have never been able to enjoy it.
I frequently buy magazines that apply to architecture, fitness, interior design and men’s interests. Many of the people reading those magazines overlook the small displays of digital art that are displayed in those magazines, probably because they don’t have an appreciation of the work that went into creating that individual element. For example, when reading a fitness magazine and they are sections that describe a specific diet that you should be using in combination with your workout. Often, they will have a multi colored pie charts explaining to the viewer how to distribute their fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Now, when you take the time critique the pie chart itself you might realize the artist’s decision to make it 3D, color selection or the size of the individual portions. In some case there might be section of the pie chart that appears magnified, as if it is coming out of the page in order to signify its importance. It seems unorthodox to see this as digital art but the artist behind these minor details of the magazine creatively organized digital techniques in order to visually display what may have seemed confusing in writing.
Many would not consider these minor digital renderings attributed with magazines, advertisements, etc. not to be considered art due to its lack of individual expression but I strongly disagree. Architecture can be defined as the thoughtful creation of space. In other words, using your own ideas to make up an empty space, whether you are creating a home or a page in a magazine. These thoughtful digital representations are what draw the general public in, like the style of the headlines or the composition of the cover. Digital art has made the 21st century a much more colorful and exciting place, making it possible to incorporate artistic expression in nearly everything around us.
